BACKGROUND INFORMATION.

FACTORS OF LOW BIRTH RATE :
More people are marrying later and having children later in their lives. Maybe it's due to the fact that more women now have higher academic quialifications than before. They may even choose to pursue a career before settling down and having children. Furthermore, more of the women cannot conceive babies after they reach the age of 50 and those who marry later or delay having children are left with fewer years to have babies.


Not only later marriages, it causes fewer marriages as well. As more people choose to remain single, there will be fewer families and birth rates will fall tremendously.


CONSEQUENCES OF LOW BIRTH RATE :
With fewer births, the number of young people in a population decreases. Therefore, there will be lesser young adults taking over the next generation. Singapore will tend to often have a growing percentage of older people compared to young people in their population. This will cause 'aging population'.

SOLUTIONS :
- We can get younger foreigners to migrate to Singapore
- Conduct more courses for family planning and childbearing .
- Incentives and penalties ( monetary rewards and incentives to encourage smaller families )
- Build more infrastructures or establishing services for a young and growing population .
- Encourage finacial planning ( personal savings and investments , social security schemes , pension and retirements funds . )
